Urban snow removal and disposal operations include a number of challenging strategic and tactical problems that have been little studied using analytical methods. Those operations include spreading de-icers and abrasives, plowing snow, loading snow into trucks, and hauling snow to disposal sites. This paper describes urban snow removal and disposal operations in detail, identifies relevant management problems, reviews previous studies, and highlight opportunities for future research.
