Integrated lot sizing, three possibilities out of thousands

Lot sizing has been studied for several decades now, being a problem of great importance for manufacturing companies. The basic lot sizing problem consists in deciding on the optimal timing and quantities to be produced by a company, in order to satisfy the demand of customers. Many variants of this problem have been studied with attributes such as production capacity restriction, backorders, stochastic demand, lost sales, different setup structures, among others. A more recent stream of research is the study of integrated lot sizing, i.e., the integration of lot sizing decisions with other related decisions such as distribution and maintenance decisions, among others. In this talk, we will go through three possibilities to integrate lot sizing with other decisions, namely lot sizing and maintenance, lot sizing and carbon emissions, and lot sizing and distribution. We will present both modelling and algorithmic contributions on those problems and indicate what are the other thousands possibilities that integrated lot sizing offers.
