The tutorial will present some simple optimization models for the design of telecommunication networks with reliability requirements. We will start with a pure IP network with Best Effort service and build from there some more complex cases. First we will add an optical transport layer, then iintroduce Quality of Service and Service Differenciation and finally present some allocation models for the reliable transport of services in MPLS networks. We assume that the audience has a working knowledge of network optimization but no particular previous experience with telecommunications is required.
