Correcting the Foundations of Decision and Game Theory
Jonathan Barzilai, Dalhousie University, Department of Industrial Engineering, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

This tutorial is a review and update on OR foundations errors that require the attention of operations research teachers, practitioners, and theoreticians. The tutorial will bring to light fundamental flaws in utility theory (including an intrinsic contradiction), game theory (the characteristic function is ill-defined, the use of undefined sums, etc.), economic theory, measurement theory (where the measurement models of even the most elementary variables such as length and mass are incorrect), decision theory where even what is being measured is not understood, and economic theory where basic errors have not been detected. The source of these errors will be explained and their correction outlined. Additional information can be found at http://scientificmetrics.com/publications.html
