This event will be held in a hybrid format on Zoom. In person, it is reserved for GERAD members only. Registration is also required for those who will come, because pizza will be offered at lunchtime.

Workshop Part 1: Introduction and Setup of PKM Tools, 10h-12h

Participants will be introduced to Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) and its importance in academic research. An overview of essential tools, including Obsidian, Zotero, and Research Rabbit, will be provided, along with a demonstration of how these tools integrate with each other. Guidance will be given for setting up an Obsidian vault and configuring Zotero and Research Rabbit to streamline workflows. Hands-on practice will ensure that participants can apply the skills immediately.

Workshop Part 2: Mastering Obsidian and Advanced Integrations, 13h-15h

Participants will learn core functionalities of Obsidian, such as using Markdown, linking notes, and utilizing tags and plugins to organize research. Practical exercises will help create a personalized networked note-taking system. The session will also introduce advanced integrations, including AI tools within Obsidian and basic Python scripting for data manipulation. By the end, participants will understand how to use AI and Python scripting to automate tasks and enhance their PKM systems.


Speaker Bio - Morteza is a doctoral candidate specializing in Business Administration at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB), Concordia University. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the Polytechnic University of Milan. Prior to embarking on his Ph.D. journey in 2020, he worked as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Consultant in Milan, Italy. His professional experience as an ERP consultant, coupled with his teaching roles in industry and academia, contributed to his understanding of both the theoretical and practical applications of effective knowledge management. In recent years, Morteza has dedicated himself to developing a Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) System tailored for scholarly endeavors. The system integrates academic tools like Obsidian, Zotero, and Research Rabbit to enhance efficiency in academic research. He has showcased the PKM system at various institutions, including Concordia University and HEC Montreal, sharing insights to benefit fellow academics.
