A GERAD member passed away

Edouard Wagneur

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edouard Wagneur.
Thank you for reading the following message from Jean-Jacques Loiseau.

Édouard Wagneur passed away in his sleep during the night of Wednesday, March 25. He had turned 80 in January. A ceremony will not be held right away, due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

Born in Switzerland, Édouard received his DEA (post-master’s qualification) in mathematics in Geneva in 1967 and then completed his thesis on foliation in Montréal in 1973. He became a member of the CRM in Montréal, and then, starting in 1983, was a member of GERAD, which he helped found, after making a daring conversion to mathematical economics. He worked on scheduling and consumer theory and produced important writings on semimodule structure.

From 1992 to 2002, Édouard was a member of LAN and IRCCyN. In 1992, he created the Automation and Production Department of the École des Mines de Nantes, France, and was its director until 1996. After retiring in 2002, he remained active as an associate member of GERAD and a frequent guest at laboratories around the world, and he continued to work with his colleagues and friends. He divided his time between Canada, Thailand and France.

Those who knew him will never forget him. He was a nonconformist and, for that, he encountered some problems. He was always unique, inventive, enthusiastic and a true friend.
