Performance Models for Reliable Network Design
, , and BibTeX reference
Multi-commodity flow models are well known and have been widely used in the design of packet-switched networks. Flow models have also been proposed for the dimensioning of circuit-switched networks with reliability constraints. We investigate how the resulting flows coincide with the actual flows produced by a real-time routing technique. We find that although there are significant differences in the flow patterns, the flow model can be used profitably in the design of telephone networks with reliability requirements.
